Welcome to the Innovative Robotics and Interactive Systems (IRIS) Lab at the University of Notre Dame!

The IRIS Lab is led by Professor Margaret Coad and is part of the Robotics and Controls group within the department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, as well as the larger Notre Dame Robotics community.

We explore the design, modeling, and control of innovative robotic systems to improve human health, safety, and productivity.

Our research has applications including robotic exploration of environments where humans cannot enter, human-safe robotic manipulation, robot-assisted human training and rehabilitation, and remote telepresence.

Our work contributes to the fields of robot design and modeling, soft robotics, bioinspired robotics, field robotics, human-in-the-loop control, and physical human-robot interaction.
